Appreciating Our Trainers at itel

May 31, 2022

Educators are important. They are key members in any community, any society, and at itel, they are the first point of contact for transmitting the necessary knowledge that optimizes job performance. They ensure that new hires are capable agents, proficient in the skills needed to excel on the job. They also motivate, inspire, and uncover new, perhaps undiscovered potential. That’s why we wanted to highlight our itel trainers, to ask them how they felt about their role as teachers, and the impact they’ve had on the lives of their pupils. Here are some of their responses…

Jason Clarke - Trainer, Kingston

Why do you love being a teacher?

My love for teaching started at an early age. I would imitate my mother (who was a teacher) by playing school with my siblings and cousins. The feeling I get when I know I have imparted some form of knowledge is what propelled me to continue this path. Being in the training department has allowed me the opportunity to not only teach people about a certain product, but to inspire young adults, and adults in general, to develop themselves and to be better versions of themselves. It also makes me immensely proud to see them develop in their jobs, especially when they move into managerial roles. Makes me feel like a proud father.

Savitrie Benjamin - Trainer, Guyana

What does being a teacher mean to you?

Teachers sow the seeds of knowledge that will last a lifetime. For me, teaching is more than a job, it's a way of life, a lens by which I view the world. To hold that instrument of inspiration in your hands means you have the power to shape and transform someone's life.

Nigelia A. Williams - Trainer, Montego Bay

What is the role of a teacher?

For me, being a teacher is about helping students to acquire knowledge, competence, or certain principles. A teacher must also be a good administrator, multitasker and motivator.

Why do you love being a teacher?

I love to teach because it gives me the ability to make a difference. There's no job more important than teaching the future leaders of our world the information they need to know. But more importantly, I help people to better understand their worth and their potential, as well as their abilities to form their own opinions by thinking critically and by observing the world around them.

What impact have you had on your trainees during your tenure?

During my tenure here at itel (3 years) and in my current role as a trainer (July will make it 2 years), trainees have continuously expressed how I have impacted their lives in a positive way. They say I serve as a constant reminder to keep focus and remember their worth. I can proudly say that five of my trainees are now supervisors and three are subject matter experts, and because of these results, I was awarded ‘top trainer’ for three consecutive months.

Ciaton Charles - Trainer, St Lucia

What does it mean to be a teacher and why do you love teaching others?

To be a teacher requires daily interaction and exposure to a wide variety of personality types. Then, you must adapt the lesson material to each student's perspective to ensure their success. But that’s why I love teaching others. Because, after putting in the effort and seeing them succeed, I can feel satisfied knowing that I helped someone become a better person. In this one instance, I had a trainee approach me about learning difficulties, where they required additional assistance. I gave this trainee my undivided attention and sacrificed personal pursuits to support them. In the end, the trainee achieved success and expressed their gratitude that I went out of my way to help them.

Chauncey Olsen - Trainer, Jeffersonville

What does being a teacher mean to you?

Being a teacher means that I can uplift and nurture my students. Through my training materials, I can motivate and challenge my students to reach far beyond what they see, and to think outside of the box.

Why do you love teaching others?

I am someone who enjoys learning, and trying new things, which fuels my love of teaching! Not only do I get the opportunity to share what I have learned with others, I also get to meet and interact with people from all walks of life. Teaching taps into my creative side, because I must uncover new and exciting ways to make our materials come alive. The ultimate reward is watching someone have that “AH-HA” moment!

Thank you to all our trainers for sharing their thoughts with us. We appreciate your hard work and celebrate your achievements!
