Meet Kemika, part of our Environmental Health, Safety and Security team.

Her role is vital in ensuring the safety and security of all company assets leaving and entering our Kingston facilities.

She is also responsible for making sure employees enjoy a healthy and safe work environment. Let’s sit down with her and learn more…

Tell us something about itel that inspires you.

Kemika: The opportunity itel provides for everyone to grow both personally and professionally.

You’re part of our Environmental Health, Safety and Security team. Can you tell us why EHSS is so important?

Kemika: This is vital for productivity, because it puts employees at ease to know that their items are secured, and that they too are personally safe at work, or while on company transportation.

What do you do in your daily role as EHSS Manager?

Kemika: My daily role involves multiple things, everything from engaging in conflict resolution to responding to health emergencies, conducting internal checks and audits, scheduling, and monitoring transportation usage for all Kingston sites, as well as negotiating and communicating with EHSS vendors. I also conduct random site inspections to ensure that all EHSS units stay aligned with company policy and procedures.

What makes you the perfect fit for this role?

Kemika: I am well-rounded, versatile, and can do anything I put my mind to. Plus, I have a passion for helping others succeed, especially my team. Additionally, I bring with me over 10 years of experience in the BPO industry and 8 years of serving in EHSS positions at various organizations.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Kemika: Phenomenal, Ambitious, Dedicated.

Safety and Security is very important and comes with major responsibilities. How do you keep yourself motivated?

Kemika: I keep myself motivated by keeping up with international security best practices, and by listening to my team on the ground and our employees. This helps me to uncover the most cost-effective and creative ways to foster a healthy, secure, and safe work environment.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Kemika: The ability to make a difference by taking on whatever I am tasked to do.

How does your role impact the employee and client experience?

Kemika: My role impacts the overall experience. The policies and procedures that we enforce not only give employees the comfort and reassurance of knowing that they are safe with us, but also clients.

What is the most challenging task you’ve had to overcome as Security Manager?

Kemika: My most challenging task is when I have to be involved in the termination process or have to make service provider changes that are necessary.

What special energy do you bring to the table that sets you apart from the rest?

Kemika: I believe it is my creativity, flexibility, and adaptability, while being firm and assertive.

How do you see your future at itel?

Kemika: I see a very promising future at itel. The sky is the limit.

What do you enjoy most about working and living in Jamaica?

Kemika: I get to experience all the seasons without having to wear a coat.
